Redondo girls volleyball finished in second place at the Ann Kang Invitational in Hawaii for a second consecutive year.

For the second consecutive season, the Redondo girls volleyball team finished second to Texas’ Byron Nelson at the Ann Kang Invitational in Hawaii.

The Sea Hawks, who went undefeated Thursday and Friday to win Pool B (6-0), opened Saturday’s playoff round with a quarterfinal win over rival Mira Costa (25-21, 21-25, 15-11) and followed that with a semifinal win over Sierra Canyon (25-23, 25-23).

In the finals, lost to Byron Nelson 25-18, 25-19.

Last year, Redondo had a semifinal win over Mira Costa and also lost to Byron Nelson in two sets.

“This was certainly a splendid start of the season for us, going 9-1 and making the finals,” Redondo coach Tommy Chaffins said. “We have 17 returning players, so we have a veteran team and with many, many skilled players.

“We look forward to getting back into the gym next week and continuing to refine our game.”

Abby Zimmerman, Taylor Boice and Rowan Devore earned all-tournament honors.

Mira Costa finished fourth in Pool A to qualify for the Gold Division playoffs. After their loss to Redondo in the quarterfinals, Mira Costa finished fifth in the tournament.

Mira Costa will play its first match in California, Friday at Torrey Pines. Redondo will host Long Beach Poly Aug. 26.
